Maureen FitzSimons's achievements as a young performer in America (which we refer to as Maureen O'Hara today) would be a sure signification for her to the child-prodigy class. For a child with Irish heritage, and surrounded as she was by gifted parents, and her family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin - Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also owned shares in the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons was 2nd in the family of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen was an athletic natural and loved playing sporting games. The combination of this natural interest and her talent to perform was impressive. In the end, she received almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances in her country of birth. When she turned 14, she was accepted to the highly acclaimed Abbey Theater and pursued her goal of performing in classical theatre as well as operatic vocals.
